The industry
Here you are in front of “L’Industrie”…
one of the iconic buildings of the Domaine de Valmont.
Built in the late 19th century, this imposing brick structure once housed the estate’s manufacturing and processing workshops.
Take a moment to observe its long façade.
It is punctuated by numerous windows, arranged with great regularity.
At the time, they served a vital purpose: providing maximum natural light for the workers employed here.
Now, look at the stone window surrounds…
and the masonry details that accent the façade.
They contrast with the warm color of the brickwork—a hallmark of late 19th-century industrial architecture.
Inside, there were machines, storage areas…
and the various workshops where products sold throughout the region were manufactured.
Picture the building as it was back then:
the noise of the machinery, the workers busy at their tasks…
and the bustling activity that brought this part of the estate to life.
Now restored, L’Industrie remains a testament to that history.
It reminds us that Valmont was not merely a place for residence and leisure…
but also a genuine hub of economic activity, whose operations long sustained the local region.
