The central staircase

Here you are in the grand hall of the Valmont Estate… standing before the central staircase.

Built of stone, it runs along the wall before turning to lead to the upper floors.

Its metal banister—simple yet sturdy—serves as a reminder that this staircase was primarily a passageway.

For generations, owners, staff, and visitors alike used it daily to access the various parts of the estate.

Yet a staircase like this also served a more symbolic purpose: it was the first thing visitors saw upon entering the house.

To this day, it lends the hall its majestic air… and bears witness to the importance once placed on welcoming guests.
